Another set of photos from a couple of days of shooting in my garden.
Up first are four shots of a buckeye butterfly.
Okay, this little toadstool was not in the garden, it was in the yard.
Monarch caterpillar on a swamp milkweed plant.
Not sure it this is a bumblebee or a carpenter bee, but I’m leaning toward the former. It’s on a blue cardinal flower.
“Oh, hi there”, said the praying mantis hiding in the swamp milkweed.
Thank you for visiting my blog.
David

The Buckey Butterfly photos are fantastic. I know how hard it is to take great pictures of butterflies.
I believe it is a Carpenter Bee. If I remember correctly the Bumblebees lower quarters are completely covered in fur.

You are probably correct. My very first thought was carpenter bee, no question about it. After look at it for awhile I thought I notice some hairs, especially on the left side, his body looked more rounded like, a bumble bee, and it did not look for lack of a better word, as robust as a carpenter bee. It may be I talked myself out of the proper ID but I’m still not sure, but I am sure I wouldn’t put money on my ID. 🙂
