Photos From My Garden #2

This post is a mix of insects and flowers from my garden, but mostly flowers.

Pink cosmos with what I think is a yellow-striped armyworm at one o’clock and some other unknown insect at 12 o’clock.

Purple coneflowers with out of focus rudbeckias in the background

Skipper on a lobelia siphilitica, sometimes called a blue cardinal flower because (except for it being blue rather than red) it looks so similar to a cardinal flower.

    • Thanks Donna. I always try to have them in focus no matter, what otherwise I think the photo fails. The hard part is getting the exposure just right right so that you can see each individual base of the the stigmas without overexposing their much brighter tops. I did it fairly well in these photos but I’m usually not so lucky.

    • Thank you Gabriela and yes, I have thoughts of anything other than blue cardinal flower when I see its scientific name. I couldn’t believe my look when I saw the two stages so closely together. It’s not uncommon for that to happen with the cosmoses but I never found them aligned for a good composition like that.
